Chair (2) - Beech

Two chairs, commonly known in Italy as vestibule stools, in a neorenaissance/baroque style with a tall, carved back featuring floral volutes and a central drop-shaped crest. The front foot is a festoon-shaped foot with large scrolls, consistent with the imposing style of the furniture. Solid beech wood stained walnut, the material of choice for high-definition carving of the era. The original patina is clearly visible, even though the seat shows scratches, surface wear, and dulling due to time and use (nothing that a good wax and a pass of ultra-fine steel wool can’t revive). The rigid seat and narrow frame were designed to welcome visitors during brief standing or seated waits. It was a type of chair well suited for the entrances of noble houses, where visitors waited. They were meant to be pressed against the walls, which is why the front part is richly carved while the backrest is smooth. Dating from the early 20th century (Historicism/Umbertine/Neo-Renaissance, circa 1880–1920). At that time there was a huge demand from the bourgeoisie for furnishings that recalled the splendors of the Renaissance. Still sought after for their refinement. Measurements: cm 39x42 x 114h; seat height cm 50; weight 5.5 kg each For deliveries to territories classified as ISLANDS, a surcharge applies to shipping costs.
