Celts, Bituriges / Pictons Drachm c. 80-60 AC

Ancient Gaulish coinage Silver drachm of the Bituriges / Pictons / Carnutes Drachm with the horseman and the hand Type Class I with the classical hairstyle Ref. LT.4433 DT.3339-3340 Head to the right Horseman to the right with a shield, hand underneath R3 This type of drachm, with this hairstyle, is very rare; three or four specimens are preserved at the BN, one in Nantes and one in Rouen. Le Nouvel Atlas rightly defends D. Nash's work on these series; this drachm corresponds to Class I “head with the classical hairstyle and reverse with the hand.”
