Celestina, derives from the Latin term caelestis (celeste), referring to the color of the crystals. It presents in tabular colorless or slightly bluish crystals, usually in limestones and sedimentary rocks, associated with gypsum, anhydrite, rock salt and sulfur. It is also found with other habits: prismatic, acicular, tabular (red, white or blue), fibrous, coarse, granular and massive. Celestine may have hydrothermal origin, in association with galena and sphalerite, or evaporitic sedimentary origin from evaporation of saline waters in association with sulfur, gypsum, aragonite, chlorides and other typical minerals.
