Soriana Sofa (two seats) by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina The Soriana series project began in 1969 with Afra and Tobia Scarpa's idea to create enveloping, sinuous, and soft shapes, using polyurethane foam padding, highly innovative for those years. Design and history: The Soriana is a masterpiece of Italian design. Structural innovation: The main feature of this sofa is the external metal frame that clamps the inner padding in a vise, eliminating the need for any internal support and maintaining a solid and welcoming shape. Award: The first model of the Soriana armchair was awarded in 1970 with the prestigious Compasso d’Oro, immediately cementing its fame for the beauty and innovation of the project. Lot conditions: We present at this auction a sofa Soriana of great elegance upholstered in soft first-quality cognac leather. The sofa presents in excellent condition Structure: The steel frame is intact and robust and retains its original luster thanks to recent cleaning and polishing. The wooden shell is intact and robust and left “patinated” as a testimony to the product’s authenticity. Padding: The padding has been checked and, where necessary, reinforced and now presents as perfectly solid and comfortable, ensuring optimal comfort. Upholstery: The upholstery in splendid, ultra-soft first-quality cognac tobacco leather is in like-new condition and shows no defects. They collaborated with leading brands such as Flos, Cassina, B&B Italia, and Molteni, receiving numerous international accolades, including the Compasso d’Oro in 1970.
