The Cassina LC2, or the Fauteuil Grand Confort, Petit Modèle, Deux Places, is one of the most recognizable icons of 20th-century modernism. Designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, this sofa revolutionized the relationship between structure and comfort by famously turning the furniture "inside out." The piece is defined by its rigorous external exoskeleton - a gleaming, chrome-plated steel frame that securely cradles the seat, back, and arm cushions. This separates the supporting structure from the inner upholstery, allowing for a perfectly square, geometric silhouette. While often colloquially attributed just to Le Corbusier, the soft, cushioned comfort of the LC2 is largely credited to the influence of Charlotte Perriand, who sought to humanize the cold steel of the machine age, ensuring it remains a timeless statement of functional luxury.
