In this work with a decidedly urban and contemporary language, the Canned duo distorts the codes of popular imagery through a singular and ironical representation. The male figure in his law-enforcement uniform, painted in black and white in a relaxed pose, seems to entrust himself to the hollow of a massive donut glazed in pink and dotted with colorful confetti. The contrast between the sharp graphic treatment of the character and the candy-sweet tones of the motif creates a quirky scene, both playful and provocative. Stencil work, characteristic of street art aesthetics, plays on the oppositions between flat color areas, defined outlines and textural effects. The piece thus distorts symbols of popular culture and consumerism in a composition with assured humor. The project “CANNED” arose from the collaboration between two French artists, Charlotte Parenteau-Denoël and Fabien Moreau (alias Mofart’z). Their common thread is the subversion of brands, images, or situations. Their main inspirations come from their personal experiences and childhood. All of this is seasoned by two major artistic movements of the second half of the 20th century: Pop Art and Graffiti. An irreverent, funny, and incisive duo of artists. Each of their works humorously tackles our biggest flaws.
