A timepiece customized by Bulova to withstand lunar space conditions, it performed its task by giving the mission crew an exact measure of time, ensuring that no one ran out of oxygen, water, or battery power in the portable life-support backpack. The watch was also used as a backup to onboard timers during the critical phase of re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.
