There were numerous collaborations between the Brand and The Voice, who never hid that Bulova watches were among his favorites. Not surprisingly, The Frank Sinatra Show was sponsored by the Brand and was known as “Bulova Watch Time.” An artistic partnership that the American Company has realized in the Bulova Sinatra Collection, launched in 2020, which over the years has been enriched with numerous references. Initially inspired, in name, by some of Sinatra’s immortal hits and, in aesthetics, by the 1950s and 1960s models often on the crooner’s wrist, the watches of the Bulova Sinatra Collection have evolved over time, still maintaining a mechanical heart that has carried through to today. With the latest extension of a collection that benefits from the collaboration of the Frank Sinatra Foundation. That Bulova has a close link to American music of the second half of the last century is also confirmed by the watch dedicated to Tony Bennett. With Sinatra, however, the relationship is tighter and longer‑standing. The new watch from the Frank Sinatra Collection echoes in its balanced, essential lines a historic model from 1967, called Banker C and as elegant as the famous Fedora hat The Voice used to wear. As with the references of previous collections, here too the inspiration comes from music: not so much from a song as from a collection of tracks released in 2008, ten years after the artist’s death: Nothing But the Best. The stainless steel case measures 37 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 10.25 mm. The shape is tonneau but the dial is round, as in the Banker G to which the watch is inspired. For this piece of the Bulova Sinatra Collection, the Maison conceived a dual finish for the case, gold-colored or steel, with a matching buckle. Of the two, the gold-colored one is, in my opinion, decidedly more interesting; by carefully working on shape and finishes and on an overall balanced aesthetic, Bulova has managed to avoid a vintage or “grandfather’s watch” look, giving this piece a contemporary and elegant appearance. Credit also to the dial, on which the most significant work has been done and which, in effect, is the most interesting part of the entire watch. In the steel-colored version it is white, in the gold-colored version it is silver: but it is not so much the color choice that is meaningful, as the finish. Bulova adopted the so‑called crosshair dial type, spread precisely in the 1950s and 1960s, realizing it in a personal and original way. The crosshair dial was distinguished mainly by a graphic detail: a central cross dividing it into four quadrants, as if it were a cake. Here, the cross is absent and the division into sections is created by alternating guilloché decoration, vertical in one sector and horizontal in the adjacent one. In this way, the whole gains movement, elegance, and depth. This depth is intensified by the Fedora silhouette engraved in relief at 6 o’clock. A symbol of the singer, which in previous watches of the Bulova Sinatra Collection we find printed. In terms of movement, Bulova has taken into account its vocation to produce watches with strong aesthetic impact and reliability, paired with an affordable price. In the case back, you will find caliber 8215, an automatic movement derived from Miyota, i.e., the Citizen Group to which Bulova belongs. The movement runs at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations/hour), has a unidirectional rotor, the date function, and about 42 hours of power reserve.
