Bruno Fert (1971) - Route de Jericho

Bruno FERT (born in 1971) route de Jericho Palestine 2012 Fine Art print on Hahnemühle Ultrasmooth paper, title and date typewritten, signed in pencil in the margin 32 x 25.5 cm (40 x 50 cm) In 1948, the creation of the Hebrew state triggered the first Arab-Israeli war and the exodus of more than 700,000 Palestinians to neighboring countries. What remains today of their towns and villages emptied of their inhabitants? It is to answer this question that I went to Israel: to find and photograph the vestiges of these phantom localities disappeared in the whirl of the 48 war. This reportage is a journey through time; a visual odyssey to the origins of the question of the refugees. These images are a testimony to a key moment in the history of the region whose consequences are today at the heart of current events. Bruno Fert — Documentary Photographer Bruno Fert develops a deeply humanist body of work devoted to exile, to migrations and to the traversed territories. From disappeared Palestinian villages to the precarious refuges of migrants, he photographs less the event than its traces. With Passages, he continues this work on the roads of exile, revealing in the landscapes the marks left by those who try to reach Europe. A precise and silent photography, where the landscape becomes a bearer of memory.
