Stunning copy number 755 enriched with sketches by Charles Brouty from this work devoted to the popular memory of Algiers, and more particularly to the world of Bab-el-Oued, emblematic district of the city, in which the author reconstructs the streets, the inhabitants, the trades, the habits, the scenes of neighborhood and the atmosphere of the 1940s to 1960s through a sequence of sketches accompanied by commentary - The title directly refers to La Bassetta, the former Spanish sector of Bab-el-Oued, whose name is linked to the Spanish term balseta, associated with a washhouse where women used to wash their laundry, while horses could drink there, which recalls the everyday popular origin of this place - The work functions above all as an album of urban memories, in which drawing becomes a means of preserving the character of a neighborhood and a society today profoundly transformed - Brouty Bassetta / Charles Brouty - Do you remember the Bassetta? - 1964 - 108 Pages.
