Japan – Takaoka bronze, Murata Hiroshi – bronze tiger with inlaid eyes. Large Japanese bronze statue of a tiger, executed in traditional Japanese metalworking. The sculpture is attributed to Murata Hiroshi (村田宏), an artist specializing in metalwork. The tiger is powerful and expressively depicted, with particular attention to anatomical details, the tense pose and the characteristic facial features. The eyes are crafted with inlaid eyes, a technique that gives the animal’s gaze a lively and realistic look. The sculpture belongs to the tradition of the Takaoka-dōki, the renowned bronze craftsmanship from Takaoka, Japan. Takaoka developed into an important center for producing bronze statues and decorative objects, combining traditional casting and finishing techniques with very refined detailing. The tiger, by its size, makes a strong presence. The surface bears a distinctive patina that emphasizes the modeling and details of the fur. Dimensions: length approx. 51.5 cm. Weight: approx. 3.2 kg Condition: Good condition, with normal signs of aging and use appropriate to age. The lot will be carefully packed and insured for shipping.
