BRITISH SCHOOL (EARLY 19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF ROBERT WYNNE (1760-1838) Oil on canvas 76 x 62.5cm (29¾ x 24½in.) Provenance: By descent in the Wynne family of Hazlewood, Sligo Thence by descent in the Wynne family of Corries, Bagenalstown, County Carlow Thence by descent to the present owner Condition Report: The canvas has been lined. There is also a patch to the upper right quadrant (verso) which appears to correspond with an area of repair to the left of the sitter's hair (recto). Fine craquelure and some paint shrinkage throughout. The paint also just starting to bloom in some areas. There is a diagonal surface scratch (approx. 5cm) running through the sitter's cravat. Light surface dirt and scratching throughout. Rubbing and abrasions to the framing edges. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouching and in-filling throughout, including to the sitter's face. There is also a green cloudy varnish present. Unexamined out of glazed frame.
