Tutte le aste / Etnografia / bracelet - Silver - mid 20th century

A vintage handmade and finely worked silver bracelet originating from the southern United States, featuring a typical Navajo design. The bracelet has at the front a mirrored motif of feathers and marquise-cut blood coral. The growth lines are visible under magnification. Vintage Tunisian cuff bracelet in silver, adorned with traditional red coral stones and engraved leaf motifs. In Tunisian jewelry art (especially from regions such as Tabarka) red coral has long been extensively used in silver jewelry. This type of filigree and engraving work with leaf shapes is characteristic of traditional North African craftsmanship. Red coral has long been known throughout the Mediterranean region as a powerful talisman. It was believed that the stone could ward off negative energies, jealousy and the evil eye (Ayn). The engraved leaves symbolize life, nature, growth and abundance. Typical of a traditional Berber bride’s dowry. The bracelet is hallmarked Tête de nègre, a well-known Tunisian silver hallmark. Since 18 July 1905 it was used in Tunis up to the mid-20th century. It indicates that the item has a silver content of at least 800/1000. Diameter now 6 cm but adjustable
