A particularly stylish pair of Boxford table lamps by Jan des Bouvrie, executed in a fully black, clean geometric form. The lamps are clearly designed as true interior objects: even when not lit, they have a strong architectural appearance due to their bold rectangular shades and cube-shaped bases. The design is typical of the minimalist style that Jan des Bouvrie became known for. Superfluous details are absent and the emphasis is entirely on form, proportion and contrast. The combination of the large rectangular lamp shades with the compact square base results in a balanced yet striking silhouette. Design and appearance The Boxford lamps are almost entirely finished in deep black. This gives both the bases and the rectangular shades a calm and luxurious look. A short metal connector sits between base and shade, creating a subtle contrast with the black design. A nice detail is the original logo on the top, through which the origin of the lamps is recognizable. As a pair, these lamps come into their own particularly well. Placed side by side on a wide sideboard or a long console table, they create a strong symmetrical composition. They are also very suitable to be placed on either side of a bed, sofa or another piece of furniture. Atmospheric lighting When the lamps are switched on, their character changes significantly. The warm light emanates from beneath the black shades and spreads around the base and onto the wall behind. The lamp shades largely shield the light source, making the lamps particularly suitable as mood and accent lighting.
