Set of Four Chinese “Bleu de Hué” Blue and White Porcelain Bowls – Vietnam, 19th Century Description A fine set of four Chinese blue and white porcelain bowls, known as “Bleu de Hué”, made for the Vietnamese market and associated with the imperial court of Huế. The four bowls are decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with finely painted naturalistic motifs, including birds, insects, flowers and foliage, combined with characteristic scrolling cloud-like borders. The bases bear four-character marks in underglaze blue, associated with the Bleu de Hué tradition. The decoration, forms, cobalt-blue painting and distinctive marks are characteristic of Chinese porcelain produced for Vietnamese patrons during the 19th century. “Bleu de Hué” refers principally to Chinese porcelain specially commissioned for Vietnam. Such pieces were produced mainly in Chinese kilns, particularly Jingdezhen, according to designs and requirements established by Vietnamese rulers, members of the royal family and the court. 3 with one hair one without silver plate ring one in very good condition see pics
