"Blessing" alarm clock model - Space Age - Tulip shape - West Germany - c

This magnificent vintage desk alarm clock is an iconic model from the Space Age era, manufactured in West Germany in the early 1970s. It was created by the famous German clockmaker Blessing. Inspired directly by space exploration and Pop Art design, the clock’s design is distinguished by its astronaut helmet shape inspired by NASA (Apollo 11): The spherical form of the upper housing with its transparent plexiglass bubble is directly modeled on the helmet of the spacesuit A7L worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during the 1969 lunar mission. It sits on a tulip-style pedestal that recalls the creations of great designers of the era such as Eero Saarinen. This particular model stands out for its wholly futuristic chrome finish, complemented by a stunning bright red sunburst dial adorned with blue indices, and crowned by its original red push button on the top of the alarm clock. History of Blessing, the manufacturer: Blessing was founded in 1940 by watchmaker Rudolf Blessing in Waldkirch, in the heart of the Black Forest. After being completely dismantled at the end of World War II, the company revived in 1948 and became—in the 1950s—the largest clock manufacturer in Europe, exporting its models worldwide. At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, Blessing established itself as a pioneer of modern design by adopting the futuristic Space Age style and innovative materials. Suffering from the competition of low-cost electronic watches (the quartz crisis), the traditional manufacturer finally closed its doors in 1977. The brand no longer exists today, making every Blessing clock a genuine, authentic vintage collectible sought after. There are Blessing-brand models on the resale market, but this one is very rare, it is bright, in excellent condition, and it works; you rareIy see it on the market.
