Bitossi - Table lamp (2) - Terracotta, Textile

Refined pair of desk lamps attributed to the Bitossi manufacture, Italian production from the second half of the twentieth century, featuring an original decorative apparatus entirely inspired by the grapevine and its fruits. The bases, made of terracotta in a warm natural tone, display rich relief work: large clusters of grapes, grape leaves, tendrils and vegetal motifs modeled on the surface, marking the cylindrical bodies of the lamps and creating an interesting play of volumes and light and shade. The decoration continues along the upper and lower bands, while small feet integrated into the structure complete the silhouette. Particularly interesting is the presence of the coordinated period lampshades, covered in beige fabric and decorated with a tone-on-tone embroidered motif that stylistically echoes the vine tendrils of the bases. The ensemble is thus unusually coherent, with the shade and the lamp body conceived in the same decorative language. On the underside is the handwritten mark “B ITALY,” documented on Bitossi productions of the era. The tactile terracotta work, left in its natural coloration, gives the pair a strongly Mediterranean and sculptural character, making the lamps decorative even when turned off. The presence of two identical and complete specimens with their coordinated shades makes the set particularly suitable for symmetrical placement on a console, sideboards, bedside tables, or beside a sofa.
