Square quarto, publisher’s red imitation-leather binding, front cover adorned with a large gilded geometric design, plain spine titled in gold letters, housed in a black slipcase with a red spine bearing the title. A bibliophile’s edition reproducing Albrecht Dürer’s famous Apocalypse cycle, based on the 1498 Nuremberg edition. The BnF describes this edition as having been published in Paris by L.C.L. in 1966, as part of the “Les Peintres du livre” collection, and specifies that the illustrations are reproduced from the 1498 edition. The volume is illustrated with Albrecht Dürer’s 16 large black-and-white compositions, including the famous frontispiece taken from the 1511 edition. The collection constitutes one of the major cycles of European Renaissance engraving. A copy of this same edition is also listed on the market, complete with the 16 engravings and its publisher’s slipcase. A fine print on Blanchemer paper from the Papeteries Prioux, set in 16-point Baskerville type and printed by Firmin-Didot in Mesnil-sur-l’Estrée; illustrations printed by the Imprimerie Grou-Radenez in Paris. Binding by the SRID in Dreux. Limited edition of 3,000 numbered copies, plus 50 non-commercial copies intended for the founders and contributors to the collection. One of the numbered copies, this one No. 33. A very attractive publication from the “Peintres du Livre” series, particularly striking for its large red cardboard binding and the striking quality of the Dürer reproductions. A beautiful copy with a very fresh interior. The hardcover is well-preserved, with a few very slight surface marks on the back cover. The slipcase is present—which is a plus—with some scuffing and minor signs of wear, particularly on the flaps and corners.
