Between the Dunes and Memories by Gary Westall Mixed Media 9.5 x 11.8 :: I painted this picture during my plein air trip to Blåvand Denmark. Amid changeable weather I stood in the dunes observed the landscape around me and captured it in oil. I was particularly drawn to the sandy areas and the small vibrantly colored plants in the foreground. The cool shades of blue and turquoise in the vegetation contrast with the warm tones of sand and orange. Behind them the overgrown dunes rise up drawing the eye toward the sea. On the hill stands a former radar station a relic from World War II. To me it forms a quiet contrast to the natural landscape. While the dunes and plants are constantly changing the structure serves as a reminder of this place’s history. Signed lower right.
