Belgium – WWII & Resistance – Collection of 7 Medals and Decorations with Boxes – 1940–1945 Description Collection of 7 Belgian medals and decorations, mainly related to the Second World War, the Belgian Resistance and the Liberation period. An attractive and coherent historical group, preserved with four presentation/storage boxes and three small ribbon devices/bars, all included in the sale. The collection consists of: 1. Belgian Commemorative Medal of the War 1940–1945 Bronze-coloured medal featuring the Belgian lion above a large “V”, with the dates 1940–1945. Yellow ribbon with black and white stripes, fitted with a prominent crossed swords device. The reverse bears the bilingual inscription referring to the Commemorative Medal of the War 1940–1945. 2. Belgian Commemorative Medal of the War 1940–1945 A second example of the same decoration, also with its yellow, black and white ribbon. This example carries a smaller crossed swords device, making an interesting variation between the two medals. 3. Armée de la Libération / Bevrijdingsleger Cross – 1940–1944 Belgian Liberation Army / Resistance decoration. The obverse bears the dates 1940–1944, the initials AL / BVL, a central sword and the motto “PRO PATRIA SEMPER”. The reverse is inscribed: “ARMÉE DE LA LIBÉRATION – BEVRIJDINGSLEGER” Complete with blue ribbon with yellow stripes. 4. Belgian honorary decoration with crown and enamel An elaborate Belgian decoration with royal-style crown suspension, silver-coloured metal, gilt details and blue, red and black enamel. It is suspended from a Belgian black-yellow-red ribbon with rosette. The decoration bears bilingual inscriptions relating to moral courage and bravery. The precise issuing organisation has not been established, so the piece is deliberately offered without attribution to a specific official Belgian order. 5. CSC – Confédération des Syndicats Chrétiens – Hommage et Reconnaissance Medal Bronze-coloured cross-shaped decoration with the letters CSC, crossed tools and agricultural/industrial symbols. The reverse bears the inscription: “HOMMAGE ET RECONNAISSANCE” Complete with green ribbon. 6. Belgian Armed Resistance Medal 1940–1945 Bronze medal depicting a female figure on the obverse. The reverse bears the inscription: “1940 RESISTERE 1945” surrounded by a laurel wreath. Complete with black ribbon with red stripes and green edges. 7. Belgian Armed Resistance Medal 1940–1945 A second example of the same Belgian Resistance decoration, also complete with its ribbon. Both Resistance medals show slight differences resulting from age and manufacture and make an attractive matching pair within the collection. Additional items The lot also includes three small triangular ribbon devices/bars, two blue and one red, as shown in the photographs. Four presentation/storage boxes are also included. As their original association with specific individual decorations cannot be established with certainty, the boxes are included as part of the collection without claiming that they are the original boxes for any particular medal. Condition The collection is in good overall vintage condition, with normal signs of age, handling and storage. Patina, surface wear, oxidation and minor marks are visible on some medals. The ribbons show age-related wear and occasional minor fraying. The enamelled decoration also shows age-related wear, particularly to the reverse. No cleaning or restoration has been carried out. Please examine all photographs carefully. They form an integral part of the description and show the exact condition, inscriptions, ribbons, crossed-swords devices, additional ribbon bars and boxes included in the sale. An interesting collection for collectors of Belgian WWII memorabilia, Resistance history, Liberation Army decorations and Belgian militaria. The complete collection of 7 medals/decorations, 3 small ribbon devices/bars and 4 boxes is sold as one lot.
