Beautiful painting signed Belfort. Jan Bévort? Circa 1970–1980 It shows a wonderful cityscape by the water. It is probably Bruges, Belgium. Three houses with a characteristic stepped gable. A church tower and a boat in the water. People on the quay on the right. The link to Jan Bévort: among art experts and auction houses there is a strong consensus that a substantial portion of the "Belfort" paintings are closely related to the well-known Dutch palette-knife painter Jan Bévort (1917–1996). Bévort and his pupils (such as Peter Brouwer) produced works through similar ateliers under various pseudonyms. The powerful, decisive knife stroke and the color use in your painting show exactly the same signature technique as the original Bévorts. The Style and Technique: The painting is a typical example of a post-impressionist cityscape, made with a palette knife (also known as peinture au couteau). This creates a characteristic impasto effect with thick, tangible layers of paint that create depth and a lively play of light. Dimensions: with the frame it measures 67 cm high and 77 cm wide.
