A wonderful sapphire weighing around 4.75 ct is the centerpiece of this ring. The gemstone is a natural product – no heating has had to improve its transparency or its special, forget-me-not blue color. The sapphire's potential has only been unleashed by a skillful cut. The historic center stone was set into the ring in our workshop, as the original stone was lost. The ring itself is just as beautiful as the gemstone - so beautiful, in fact, that it is hard to speak of a mere setting. Delicate rose ornaments sawn by hand into silver surround the sapphire like a garden laid out around a tranquil pond. Small diamond roses sparkle on the blossoms like drops of dew. Borders of gold surround the silver and also shape the architecturally designed shoulders with golden acanthus leaves, which merge into an ornamental ring band. The ring, which was probably made in Italy, is reminiscent of the jewels of Mario Buccellati, whose work was inspired by the patterns of precious gold-knitted lace and thus established a typically Italian style. Unfortunately, the ring bears no hallmarks, so we do not know where exactly it was made. We discovered the wonderful, handmade jewel here in Berlin.
