Bautte - Geneve - Orologio da Tasca "BAUTTE à Genève" in Argento

For sale, a fascinating antique pocket watch signed by the renowned Swiss manufacturer Bautte à Genève. The watch stands out for the richness of its artisanal craftsmanship, the 800 silver case with hallmarks, and a splendid dial decorated with floral and bucolic motifs. Included in the sale are two vintage winding keys. • Manufacturer / Brand PRESTIGIOUS: Bautte à Genève (engraved on the cuvette/internal dust cover). "Jean-François Bautte (1772–1837) was one of the most famous and brilliant watchmakers and jewelers in Geneva, regarded as a pioneer of ultra-thin watches and of the highest luxury timepieces. His extraordinary technical skill and revolutionary aesthetic taste allowed him to found a manufactory that quickly became a reference point for the aristocracy and royal houses across Europe, counting among its most famous clients Queen Victoria of England. Bautte’s manufactory was renowned not only for the precision of its movements but also for the sublime artistic quality of its cases, often decorated with polychrome enamels and high-level hand engraving, exactly like the specimen presented here. A curiosity for collectors: the historic house founded by Bautte continued successful production throughout the 19th century until the early 1900s, when it was acquired and merged with another giant of Swiss watchmaking, giving life to the legendary house we know today as Girard-Perregaux. Owning a Bautte watch thus means holding the direct ancestor of one of the world’s most prestigious luxury brands." • Movement: Mechanical, manually wound via antique key, anchor escapement (15 Jewels). Beautiful movement finely engraved and hand-decorated with time regulation "Fast/Slow" (Advance/Retard). • Case Material: Silver 800 guaranteed by the official hallmarks of the era (Crown and Crescent for German/Swiss silver and the crow/ruffed grouse hallmarks) visible inside the case back. • Dimensions: Generous diameter of 55 mm (excluding crown). • Total Weight: 96.20 grams (as measured on the precision scale in photographs). Dial: Multi-tone dial with hours in large black Roman numerals on a light band, outer minute track, and small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. The central part is enriched with a hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration depicting a young man on horseback with a dog, framed by delicate red and blue floral details. • Hands: Splendid original blued-steel hands, crafted in the Louis XV style, rich in swirls. • Outer Case Back: Entirely hand-engraved, featuring a finely detailed genre scene of a hunter with his pointer dog, enclosed within a geometric zig-zag frame. • Case Edge: Grooved profile, struck with a three-dimensional bead motif, exquisitely worked. Object Condition: The watch presents in very good cosmetic condition, well preserved for its age, with the natural patina of the silver that enhances the engravings. The miniature details on the dial and the engravings on the case back are fully legible and not faded. The watch is regularly functional."
