Balance or scale - Marble, Wood, Brass

Two-pan balances are measuring instruments that date back to antiquity, but this specific model with a marble base and brass pans is typical of the period between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. These scales were used mainly in shops, pharmacies and post offices to weigh goods, ingredients or mail with precision. The combination of precious materials such as polished brass and white marble reflects the aesthetic attention of the era, when even everyday work instruments were crafted with artisanal care. Ancient scales are highly valued by collectors of scientific instruments, industrial antiquities and period objects. These pieces are sought after not only for their historical and functional value, but also as decorative elements that evoke the charm of old shops and laboratories. Their presence in a collection testifies to the evolution of metrological technology and represents a tangible piece of commercial and scientific history.
