Autógrafo - Firma Rey Amadeo I de Saboya. España. Firma manuscrita. - 1871

Magnificent signature of King Amadeo I. An exceptional and rare piece belonging to the brief reign of Amadeo I of Savoy (1871–1873). As the reign lasted only two years, documents signed by Amadeo I are extremely scarce and coveted by collectors. The document also includes the handwritten signature of General Francisco Serrano: Chief of State, Regent of Spain; President of the Council of Ministers; President of the Executive Power and architect of Amadeo I's arrival: Along with General Prim, he pushed and managed the search for a constitutional king, formally receiving Amadeo I when he landed in Spain. Complete document and in good condition. Original from the period. It is a Royal Cedula / Appointment to the Order of Saint Hermenegildo Amadeo I of Savoy (Turin, 1845 – Turin, 1890), known as the “Knight King” or the “Elect,” was king of Spain between January 1871 and February 1873. His fleeting reign of barely two years constitutes one of the most tumultuous and singular periods in modern Spanish history. Son of King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy (House of Savoy), he was elected by the Spanish Cortes in 1870 after the 1868 Revolution (“La Gloriosa”), which deposed Queen Isabella II. General Juan Prim pushed his candidacy as the solution for a democratic and constitutional monarchy. A few days before Amadeo’s arrival in Spain, General Prim was assassinated in Madrid, leaving him without his main political advocate from the very beginning. Overwhelmed by political ingovernability and the conflict among the Artillery officers, Amadeo I abdicated the throne of Spain on February 11, 1873. In his famous abdication message to the Cortes, he described the Spanish as “indomitable” and ungovernable. His departure immediately led to the proclamation of the First Spanish Republic. Beautiful piece of collection and of Spanish history. Original from the period. Excellent piece, no reserve price. Great opportunity.
