He turns his head toward us, his gaze grave. Behind him, cypresses and poplars are reflected in the still water, and the hills recede beneath a summer sky. The silence of the scene rests in that look: he is paddling, but we don't know where he’s going, or if he really wants to go there. The reflections turn the surface into a second landscape, even calmer than the first. A serene and slightly melancholic canvas, for those afternoons that never seem to end.
