Arnold N - C7823 - Model train passenger car (1) - 4-axle Plan-D Restoration Coach, Exclusive Model - NS 4-axle Plan-D Restoration Coach Fleet number NS C7823 Exclusive and Rare Model for Kuijpers Utrecht. Plan D is the type designation for a series of hauled passenger cars that was deployed by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) between 1950 and 1987. In 1949 NS decided to replenish the war-damaged rolling stock with seventy D-train coaches that received the type designation Plan D. The order with Werkspoor and Beijnes included twenty coaches with first and second class (AB's), forty coaches with third class (C's) and ten coaches with restoration and baggage sections (RD's). The bodied construction largely corresponded to that of the pre-1940 built bulb-headed coaches. The floors, which previously were wooden, were now made of ribbed sheet material, filled with cork. By applying this ribbed material, various transverse constructions could be dispensed with. The bogies were also of a different design, derived from the pre-war design type "IT", now type "S". Visually the coach changed by the installation of roof gutters and electric stop signals. The previously used signal irons remained in service due to international deployment. The coaches also had one fewer compartment than the old bulb-headed coaches. The coaches entered service from 1950 in the then-new turquoise color scheme. They were hauled by the also-new electric locomotives, delivered in the same color, of series 1100, 1200 and 1300, and were used for express trains. After a few years the distinctive turquoise was replaced by Berlin blue, which they retained until the end. With the exception of the RD's, these coaches were taken out of service in 1974-1978. Due to increased capacity demand on the Amsterdam – Brussels connection in the early seventies, after a successful test run in 1974 eight RD's were rebuilt into cab-coach units for Benelux trains in push-pull operation. In that capacity these coaches served until 1987, when they were replaced by coaches built to the ICR design in yellow-red livery. From Plan D two coaches have been preserved at the Dutch Railway Museum, at the Vereniging tot Behoud van Spoormaterieel Haarlem one coach and at the Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij three coaches.
