Tutte le aste / Mobili, Design & Specchi / ANTONIO PANDIANI (MILANO
Splendid and rare pair of two-light candelabra entirely made in bronze, signed under the base by the famous Milanese sculptor and founder Antonio Pandiani (Milan). The work is an exceptional example of artistic fusion in the Art Nouveau / Liberty style. The structure of the candelabra develops like a true organic vegetal trellis, with sinuous arms molded on a flowering stem. The worked bases welcome the branches that split to support large blossoming buds and finely chased drip-plates in the shape of chrysanthemum or dahlia leaves and petals, anti-drip plates. Each element reflects extraordinary manual craftsmanship, typical of Milanese workshops at the end of the 19th century. The millimetric difference in height between the two pieces (18.5 cm and 18.7 cm) testifies to the total and refined artisanal workmanship. SIGNATURE: Both candelabra feature under the base the inscription with the stamp of the renowned foundry/sculptor: A. PANDIANI - MILANO HISTORICAL NOTES ON THE AUTHOR AND THE PANDIANI FOUNDRY: Antonio Pandiani (Milan, 1838 – 1928) belongs to one of the most celebrated dynasties of Milanese sculptors, bronziers and founders (together with his brother Costantino and his father Giovanni). Trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Antonio successfully directed the famous Pandiani Artistic Foundry at Via Olmetto in Milan. - Royal Collaborations and Exhibitions: The Pandiani Foundry became an official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, creating furnishings and bronzes for the Quirinal Palace and the Royal Palaces. - Famous works and Collections: Among his most illustrious works is the bust of Queen Victoria (now in the National Trust collection at Anglesey Abbey, UK) and the sculpture of King Vittorio Emanuele II in hunting dress presented at the Milan Industrial Exhibition of 1881. - His works regularly appear in the world's most prestigious international auction houses and in major public and private antique collections. - Era: Late 19th – Early 20th Century (approximately 1890–1910) - Style: Art Nouveau / Liberty – Floral Taste - Author: Antonio Pandiani (Signature engraved under the base) - Material: Cast and chased bronze - Height: Irregular (handcrafted), about 18.5 cm to 18.7 cm - Maximum length (from light point to light point): 28 cm CONDITION: The candelabra are in overall excellent condition, considering the age of the piece. They show the normal and fascinating signs of time with light ornamental wear to the original patina. The pieces have undergone light, conservative cleaning, which revived the bronze’s luster and enhanced the chasing, without altering in any way the historical patina and their antique value. No structural damage. Please carefully review all attached photographs, which are an integral and fundamental part of the object’s description.
