Antoni Tapies (1923-2012) - Petrificada petrificante

This is an original color etching with relief printing by the world-famous Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, drawn from his portfolio named “Petrificada petrificante” from 1978. The work was created in collaboration with the famous Mexican poet and Nobel laureate Octavio Paz for the handmade artist’s book/portfolio Petrificada petrificante. It was published by the leading Galerie Maeght in Paris. It shows the characteristic "matterist" style of Tàpies. Although the background appears to be on corrugated cardboard, it is an exquisitely skilled etching technique in which relief and texture are pressed directly into thick handmade paper (often Moulin de Larroque).
