This is a hand-knotted Oriental carpet, made from durable, natural materials. The way of knotting and the diversity of patterns make this rug a unique piece and emphasize its authentic and artisanal character. Special Ersari, hand-knotted circa 1940 somewhere around Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The Ersari are one of the largest and oldest Turkmen tribes, and their carpets are among the most valued in the region. These Turkmen tribes roam over a wide area, including the northern part of Afghanistan. While traveling, these carpets are knotted, often with wool obtained from their own herd of sheep and goats. This wool is not bleached before the first dye bath, which results in beautifully natural color variation being visible. Such imperfections and inconsistencies belong to this rug and contribute to the authentic character and unique appearance. A wonderful piece of history that tells a story of how carpets were made 80+ years ago. A tale of wandering freely and gaining other inspirations.
