This ring shines with the light of a vividly pink sapphire and sparkling small diamonds. The sapphire is of exceptional quality: it is a natural stone from Burma—the classic source of even the most coveted rubies—that has not been heated or otherwise treated. The stone is very clear and weighs about one carat. Its elongated cut with a large table allows light to dance vividly through the crystal. The sapphire is accompanied by ten sparkling diamonds. Each of them has been individually faceted by hand. All the stones are set in high-karat rose gold, which perfectly complements the ring’s unusual color scheme. The ring was crafted in the final years of the 19th century. The use of reddish gold is quite typical of this period, as is the rich ornamentation of the ring band. It features an artfully openwork design and is adorned with finely serrated motifs whose sweeping forms are reminiscent of the Rococo style. The decorative elements lend the ring a sense of lightness and elegance without detracting from the impact of the magnificent center stone. We discovered the ring in Berlin.
