Animal-drawn agricultural cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century

Descriptio Wood assembled with wrought iron. An antique rural cart designed for transporting goods and agricultural implements, built with a sturdy open rectangular platform supported by large spoked wheels. The piece retains its original hitching systems, chains, and metal fittings, demonstrating its former utilitarian function. The surfaces display a rich patina of age, with deep erosions, cracks, traces of polychromy, and oxidation that visually enrich the piece and accentuate its historical authenticity. The composition reflects traditional artisanal manufacturing methods developed in 19th-century rural Spain, where robustness, practicality, and the durability of the materials were paramount. The expressive power of the aged wood and the noble simplicity of its forms make this cart an outstanding example of rural folk art and a piece of ethnographic heritage of great decorative interest.
