Andrea Branzi - Lamp - Campanula lim edit 2025 - Glass

Campanula is the rerelease of the pendant lamp designed by Andrea Branzi in 2008. The Vossen Gallery in Brussels reissues this lamp with new glass finishes, in a numbered edition of 50 pieces (25 in steel gray and 25 transparent). The form resembles a flower consisting of three floral coronas that “bloom” and shine in the dark; the three clock-shaped diffusers of the lamp are made of blown glass in three different diameters, stacked on top of one another with transparent silicone spacers. Glass is – in this project just as in Branzi’s other projects – interpreted as an unstable and elastic material, very contemporary, writes the designer, because it reflects the instability and uncertainty of what he describes as “fragile modernity.” Like flowers are also Ipomoea, Nasturtium and Jasmine, the glass vases designed by Andrea Branzi for Design Gallery in 2000; they seem to be the result of a symbiosis between vase and flower – objects to behold, with or without their plant contents. The Campanula lamp and the vases mentioned here are handmade, poetic and symbolic creations; free from functionalist constraints, they express several recurring ideas in Branzi’s work and writings. The idea of the fragility of the beauty of things (threatened by the dominance of the market and information), and that of a project without certainties in the postindustrial world, are conveyed by the helpless transparency and fragility of the glass, and by the seemingly unstable stacking of the elements. The recognition of the usefulness of the useless as a new quality of design is, on the other hand, expressed in the abundance of diffusers in the Campanula lamp and—in the case of the stackable vases—in the very choice to design vases for flowers. This, for Andrea Branzi, is a critique of modernist utilitarianism, which aimed to remove from our lives all elements deemed useless – such as flowers, poetry, art and more. Mouth-blown, transparent power cable (max 2.05 m long), roses in chrome. Comes in a wooden box of 62 cm x 62 cm x 62 cm Glass color: steel gray or transparent; color structure: chrome; light source: 1x E27 max 30W LED Transport: for other countries on request
