The long slender shaft is decorated with engraved geometric and vegetal motifs around the central section, while the zoomorphic terminal provides the principal ornamental element. Animal-headed hairpins formed part of personal adornment during the Roman Imperial period, combining a practical function with elaborate decorative craftsmanship.
