Ancient Roman

Roman Bronze ring with small decorated circular bezel – 1st-4th century AD A bronze ring with a thin hoop and small circular bezel retaining traces of engraved or relief decoration. The surface is worn and partly covered by green alteration, so the motif cannot be identified as a particular figure. The shoulders are modest and the disc is distinguished from the hoop by its thickness. Edge irregularities, small pits and deposits beneath the head are visible. The modest size of the bezel in relation to the hoop gives the piece a restrained silhouette. Its upper face carries more surface detail than the surrounding band, but the motif is softened by wear and alteration. The head remains a discrete focal point when viewed obliquely, with small changes of thickness at the shoulder junctions. Green deposits and irregular texture affect both the face and parts of the hoop. These surviving features are described without restoring the original image in words. Material: Bronze Dimensions: 2.5 x 2.4 cm Weight: 2.95 gr Provenance: Aduired in Germany from an auction House, previously from a personal collection.
