Funerary model of a Quanyi chair in glazed terracotta China, Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) Interesting miniature model of a Chinese horseshoe-back Chair in terracotta, preserving notable remains of glaze in green and turquoise tones. The structure reproduces on a small scale one of the most recognizable designs in Chinese furniture: the enveloping backrest chair or quanyi, characterized by its broad curved back that continues to form the arms, raised on a frame of straight legs and crosspieces. During the Ming Dynasty, this type of ceramic reproductions were part of mingqi, funerary objects intended to accompany the deceased and symbolically reproduce in the tomb elements of their daily life, rank and domestic environment. The piece is particularly attractive for the partial preservation of its green/turquoise glaze, visible mainly on the front, legs, crosspieces and upper elements, contrasting with exposed terracotta areas and the archaeological surface. It presents a marked patina of antiquity, deposits, abrasions and glaze losses. Breaks, ancient joints, consolidations and restorations are also evident, especially in the backrest area and arm supports, and should be regarded as part of the current state of conservation of the work.
