At the center of the canvas, a monumental lotus unfurls its petals in an almost architectural composition. Each petal is inhabited by a multitude of small signs, dots, shapes and motifs that give the flower a nearly cosmic dimension. The lotus thus seems to contain an entire world: thoughts, experiences, emotions and life paths. Around this central figure develops a personal graphical vocabulary: eyes, human silhouettes, abstract signs, geometric shapes and decorative elements cross and respond to each other. The eye placed above the lotus can be interpreted as a symbol of consciousness and inner perception, while the silhouettes evoke the human being and its journey. The deliberate choice of black and white reinforces the power of the work. Black provides depth and character, while white spaces create visual breath. This opposition also evokes notions of duality and balance. In this work, Anastasiya Tumanova does not seek to reproduce a traditional representation of Buddha. She builds a contemporary interpretation of awakening, where the lotus becomes a symbolic door to self-knowledge.
