A luminous and unusual four-panel byōbu entirely covered in gold leaf, creating a shimmering effect in striking contrast with the dark lacquered frame. Historically, gold-leaf folding screens were often used in noble residences and temples, not only for their functional role but also for their aesthetic and symbolic value. The use of gold leaf signified elevated status and an appreciation for refined artistic expression. The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider. Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings. ---The byobu is in good condition, with minor wear to the gold leaf. Some wear to the lacquered frame and flaws to the paper on the reverse. Please refer to the pictures for further details. The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy. 641
