An 18-carat gold ring set with a signed and dated Roman polychrome glass micro mosaic on copper depicting a European goldfinch perched upon the branch of a tree against a rich cobalt-blue ground by Giacomo Raffaelli (1753-1836) Rome, dated 1790, set within an octagonal 18-carat gold mount, the broad angular hoop is pivoted to either side of the bezel, allowing it to fold flat across the reverse, the exposed copper backplate is engraved: "Giacomo Raffaelli Fece Roma 1790" the panel measuring 27 x 20mm, size J (approximately) 6.7 grams, presented in a latter twin-folding Italian jeweller’s box marked Petochi, Roma
