Amsterdamse School bijzettafel / plantentafel - Side...

Amsterdam School occasional table with gracefully shaped legs and lower shelf A charming little table with a warm, lived-in character! This wooden side table combines a round top with a profiled edge and a smaller round lower shelf. The elegantly formed legs give the design a playful silhouette, while the visible wood grain and honey-brown color contribute to a warm look. The lower shelf offers extra space for a small stack of books or a decorative object. As such, this table is not only attractive to look at but also practical beside a fauteuil, in a reading corner, or as a plant stand. Round side tables with a second shelf are among the designs found in furniture from the early twentieth century. Antique dealers document similar models in which the smaller lower shelf provides additional presentation space while keeping the design light. That is a comparison of form; the exact dating and provenance of this piece have not been established. The combination of round tops and wavy leg profiles gives the piece its own character. A atmospheric addition to a country, classic, or eclectic interior, especially for those who appreciate wood with visible signs of use.
