ALGERIA. Viala, Baron CHARON (1797–1880) Major General, Governor of Algeria, Senator – Autograph letter signed by Viala CHARON, Colonel in command of the Corps of Engineers in Algeria, Algiers, August 25, 1844, to the Lieutenant General in command of the Province of ORAN (Algeria). 2 pages (28 x 19 cm): “My General. Finally, the last reason is that I am awaiting horses from France and intend to ask the Minister or the Marshal Governor to have some of them sent to the Oran Division; upon their arrival, the various detachments, which will have been reduced in strength, will then require an essential reinforcement…’”
