Graziani Estimate: 1200.00 / 1400.00 euro Technical sheet Author: Alfio Paolo Graziani (1900–1981) Title: Mimosa e violette Dating: 1943 Technique: oil on canvas Painting dimensions: 100 × 70 cm Dimensions with frame: 117 × 88 cm Signature: A. Graziani, bottom left Genre: still life, floral Frame: carved and decorated wooden frame, with light finish and gilded details Documentation on the back: historical cartouche Bordin 1862 – “Exclusivity of painters of great renown,” with the author, title, dimensions, price and date indicated. Historical-artistic description Mimosa e violette is a large-format floral still life, built around the spectacular yellow mass of the mimosa, which almost entirely occupies the upper part of the composition. Graziani places the numerous flowering sprigs according to an expansive and deliberately exuberant structure. The sequence of the small yellow blossoms is interrupted by green-gray leaves, creating a vibrant and luminous surface that stands out from the brown-reddish background. The large bouquet is gathered inside a red vase, whose warm color constitutes the second important chromatic focal point of the composition. In the foreground appears a green container of smaller size containing a small bouquet of violets, thus constructing the contrast that gives rise to the historical title of the work. Particularly refined is the chromatic relationship between the yellow of the mimosa, the red of the vase, the green of the container and the violet hue of the small flowers. At the base, the gray-green drapery, with decorative motifs, introduces another element of movement and gives depth to the composition. The painting matter appears substantial especially in the inflorescences, where small touches of color physically construct the mimosa sprigs. The result is a still life with a strong decorative presence, yet supported by a careful organization of masses and chromatic relationships. Signature The signature “A. GRAZIANI” is clearly visible in the lower left corner of the painting surface. Frame The work is housed in an important carved and decorated wooden frame, of a modern-20th-century taste, characterized by a light ivory/antique silver finish, enriched with gilded profiles and ornamental motifs. The frame, which brings the overall dimensions of the work to 117 × 88 cm, appears stylistically well matched to the painting and contributes to its considerable decorative presence. Condition Report Based on the available photographs, the painting appears to be in overall good conservative condition, considering its 1943 dating. The canvas is regularly tensioned on the wooden frame and no major structural deformations are immediately evident. The painting surface retains good legibility and still intense coloration, particularly in the yellows of the mimosa and the reds of the vase. *** Photography note Some photographs of the work were taken with the aid of professional studio lighting and spotlights to allow better legibility of the composition, details and painting material. This lighting may cause slight variations in color perception and brightness compared to viewing the work directly. The photographs are for illustrative and documentary purposes only. The frame is provided free of charge with the work and should be considered an accessory element, not included in the monetary valuation of the painting. Due to the natural fragility of antique and gilded frames, any damage, detachment, breakage or loss of parts of the frame occurring during transport or shipment cannot be the subject of refund, compensation or dispute regarding the value of the work. The packaging will nevertheless be prepared with the utmost care to ensure as safe a transport as possible. insured shipment Attributive Expertise *** For historical interest reasons the work cannot be shipped outside the European Community / insured shipment in a wooden crate
