Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuova Super 1600 1978 • Originally delivered in the Netherlands • Original service booklet present • Light alloy GTA 15" wheels • Beautiful yellow Carello headlights • 1600 engine with 102 hp • 5-speed manual transmission • Very original condition • Valid MOT until June 2027 HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION This fine Alfa Romeo was new from Albatros Automobiel Amsterdam on May 3, 1978. The original service book is still with the car, in which maintenance was frequently recorded in the early years. The first owner kept the car for a long time until 1998. The second owner also enjoyed the Alfa for a long time, until 2011. The car is damage-free and has been well preserved over the years, making it a very original vehicle. Logically there are signs of use appropriate to the age of the car, but it has not been restored. There is an RDW odometer report, as well as an invoice from 2025 and an MOT form (valid until June 17, 2027). The color combination of the dark blue paint and the black faux-leather interior is original and attractive. Based on the recorded maintenance, the RDW odometer report, and the original condition, it is highly likely that the original mileage is 149,430 km. EXTERIOR The Alfa is finished in the stylish dark blue shade 'Blu Olandese'. The 15" GTA Veloce Style alloy wheels are in very good condition (new price €1,490). The bodywork has good seam gaps and is damage-free. The paint shows some signs of use and rubber and chrome work are largely original. There are rust spots visible in the wheel arches. The lighting functions properly. At the front there is the characteristic yellow lighting mounted: at the time mandatory in France and often optional in other countries. All in all, a fresh optical appearance and very original condition, especially given the age of the car. INTERIOR The black faux-leather interior is also in a very original condition. This means there are some signs of use, such as light cracking on the passenger seat. The interior features attractive gauges and a wooden dashboard. The car is steered with the fine wooden 3-spoke steering wheel. The gauges work and are in good condition. The leather upholstery is free of cracks. For safety and comfort the car has heating and seatbelts. A Philips radio is also installed. The trunk space is surprisingly roomy and in a neat condition. The rubber floor mat bears the Alfa logo. A jack and spare wheel are also present. TECHNICAL The Giulia has been well maintained by an Alfa Romeo specialist. The wheels are fitted with Continental tires all around in good condition. The manual 5-speed gearbox together with rear-wheel drive provides the ultimate driving experience. The car starts, runs, and shifts well. The engine is a 1.6-liter inline-four with 1570 cc, 8 valves and 2 Weber carburetors. This delivers 102 hp at 5500 rpm and a torque of 142 Nm at 2900 rpm. The car can still keep up well with modern traffic and has a top speed of 175 km/h. Naturally, it is fitted with original disc brakes on all wheels. GENERAL The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a model name that Alfa Romeo used at different times for three unrelated ranges. The best known is the first generation (Type 105), a sporty four-door sedan built between 1962 and 1978. Later the name was also used for modified versions of the Giulietta models, and in 2015 it was reintroduced for a modern sedan. The original Giulia was notable for combining a relatively powerful engine with a lightweight body of around 1,000 kg. It featured an advanced four-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts, available in 1.3- and 1.6-liter variants. Thanks to this technology, the Giulia was known for its lively handling and strong performance for its class. The 1.6-liter “Super” version achieved a top speed of around 170 km/h and accelerated to 100 km/h in about 12 seconds – impressive for its time. Although the design was quite angular and simple, it proved to be surprisingly aerodynamic. Wind tunnel testing helped achieve a low air resistance, contributing to the performance and efficiency of the car. In 1974 the Giulia Super series was reintroduced as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuova Super, including the 1300- and 1600-versions. These models received a refreshed look, with a black plastic grille and a flat boot lid without the distinctive center crease. Production of this series ran until 1977 and was followed by the Giulietta.
