Lot: Le Regie Truppe Sarde 1773–1814 / L'Armata Sarda della Restaurazione 1814–1831 1. Le Regie Truppe Sarde 1773–1814 This volume illuminates the period from the accession of King Victor Amadeus III through the dramatic coalitions against revolutionary France to the exile of the royal house on the island of Sardinia. Military reforms of 1773 and 1786: The book documents in the main text the reorganization of the regiments in detail. It shows the theoretical structure of a Sardinian unit (e.g., the division of battalions into Fusiliers, Grenadiers, and the newly developed Cacciatori / Hunters). War organization (1792–1796): Deployment of troops (national regiments, foreign regiments, and provincial regiments) for the Alpine campaign against the French Revolutionary armies. The Napoleonic disintegration: A chronicle of the forced demobilization and the integration of large Piedmontese units into the French army after the Savoyards lost the mainland. The Sardinian phase (1799–1814): The book documents the almost forgotten “Exile Army” that remained on Sardinia to protect the remaining part of the state from Napoleon. Visual appendix: Dozens of large-format color plates of uniforms from all services of the era 1789/1792, showing precisely how the cuts evolved from Prussian-influenced styles to the more modern Napoleonic uniform forms. 2. L'Armata Sarda della Restaurazione 1814–1831 This volume covers the era after Napoleon’s fall and the Congress of Vienna—the so-called Restoration, in which the old kingdom was reborn in the spirit of absolutism. The total reconstruction (1814–1815): Documentation of “Hour Zero.” After King Victor Emmanuel I returned to Turin, there was almost no army of its own left. The text meticulously describes the rapid reorganization of regiments from former Napoleonic veterans and royalist volunteers for the 1815 campaign (the rule of the Hundred Days). The unrest of 1821: Analysis of the military mutinies and the attempted constitutional coup of 1821, which led to a harsh purge of the officer corps. Structure and everyday life: Tables on the army’s peace strength, recruitment laws, pay, equipment, and regulations for garrison service under King Charles Felix. Flags and heraldry: Precise listing of regiment flags, which in this reactionary era were again heavily influenced by religious motifs (such as the Savoy cross). Visual appendix (74 color plates): These plates are among Fiorentino’s most sought-after works. They show in detail the radical change in army fashion toward the typical Biedermeier and Restoration style: gigantic shakos, wide “birdcages” for musicians, the introduction of units such as the Carabinieri Reali (founded 1814), and the intricate color distinctions of the individual brigades. Condition: light signs of wear on the cover, interior: clean and with firm binding
