African mask, possibly Fang area, Central Africa, 20th century

Descriptio Carved wood with traces of polychromy. Measures 46 x 27 x 25 cm. Mask with an oval face and stylized features, a long straight nose, half-closed eyes, and a small mouth with prominent teeth, surrounded by a striated border that frames the face with strong formal solidity. The geometric simplification and hieratic serenity of the features reflect a ritual and symbolic aesthetic, where expressive power arises from the refinement of volumes and the patina of use. The piece belongs to the tradition of African ceremonial sculpture, valued for its plastic intensity and its capacity for formal condensation. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
