Affirmative - Newel Hunter

Affirmative by Newel Hunter Painting 18.0 x 24.0 :: Painted on an 18 x 24 x .25 inch hardboard panel Affirmative is a perfect example of Hunter’s fluid and uniquely expressive style -- which so often results in arresting images with a sense of depth and sculptural form. This painting is powerful in its suggested simplicity. Affirmative votes its conscience in a bold sweeping brushstroke of black acrylic paint on a white background. The single continuous motion creates a dynamic flowing shape that curves and twists with a sense of energy and movement. The variation in opacity and texture within the stroke allows for contrasts between thick saturated areas and lighter more transparent sections. The brushwork captures the physical gestures involved revealing both strength and fluidity. The high contrast between the dark brushstroke and the stark white negative space sharpens the clarity of the form and draws focus to the sweeping upward motion -- voting in the affirmative. Powerfully with no hesitation. By the way the horizontal version of this image is called “Rolling With It.” Either way you get a powerful statement in a contemporary and minimalist form that refuses to be denied. Affirmative comes signed on the back. Carefully packaged and shipped rolled in a heavy-duty mailing tube.
