Each artwork is individually hand-finished, hand-signed and numbered, from a **limited edition of only 4 unique variations**. ◉ Set of 2 artworks – total size: 37 × 44 cm ◉ Each artwork measures approximately 37 × 22 cm ◉ Original mixed-media artworks by **Æ2381 (Spain, b. 1977)** ◉ **Limited edition of only 4 unique variations** ◉ Individually hand-finished with spray paint and pastel crayons ◉ Each artwork is hand-signed and numbered ◉ Certificate of Authenticity with holographic security seal ◉ Individual registration ID corresponding to the artist’s official catalogue ◉ Created on acid-free Hahnemühle rice paper for Sumi-e, giving the works their characteristic delicate surface and rich black-ink appearance ### Japanese Tin Robots: Mechanical Dreams This pair pays tribute to the imaginative universe of Japanese tin toy robots, whose mechanical bodies, blinking eyes, gauges, antennas and wonderfully improbable designs became enduring symbols of the optimism of the early Space Age. Produced primarily during the post-war decades, Japanese tin robots transformed visions of future technology into physical toys. Their designs combined science fiction, industrial machinery and a distinctly playful idea of what robots might someday become. **Æ2381** takes this nostalgic visual language and places the robots inside an imagined Japanese retro-futurist publication from an alternative past. In the first artwork, a monumental tin robot dominates the composition while a chaotic gathering of smaller mechanical characters advances below. Rockets, planets and the Eiffel Tower transform the scene into an impossible meeting between Paris and an interplanetary expedition. The second artwork expands the journey toward Pisa, where the Leaning Tower rises among planets, mountains and an eccentric procession of mechanical explorers. Box-shaped heads, television screens, analogue dials and exposed machinery recall the unmistakable design language of classic Japanese space toys. The robots are deliberately imperfect. They are not the streamlined machines imagined by contemporary science fiction, but charming mechanical creatures assembled from metal boxes, gauges, screens, knobs, antennas and visible technology. That physical quality is precisely what makes vintage tin robots so appealing to collectors today: they represent a period when the future was imagined not as invisible software, but as something that could be wound up, switched on and watched walking across the floor. The compositions combine this toy heritage with **Æ2381’s** fascination with Japanese graphic culture. Monumental Japanese typography, dense halftones, cross-hatching, distressed printing and deliberately aged surfaces evoke 1970s manga advertisements, toy catalogues, science-fiction magazines and underground Japanese publications. The result sits deliberately between toy collecting, pop culture and contemporary art. Rather than simply depicting individual vintage robots, *Mechanical Dreams* celebrates an entire era of imagination — the moment when Japanese toy manufacturers transformed metal, gears and brightly imagined technology into miniature ambassadors from the future. Two artworks. An army of mechanical travellers. A nostalgic journey back to the future imagined by Japanese toy makers. ### About the Artist Artist and designer **Æ2381 (Spain, b. 1977)** holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Design and Multimedia Technologies (Barcelona, 2004) and a Bachelor’s Degree in East Asian Studies. His work combines influences from Japanese culture, retro technology, popular imagery, minimalism and the visual language of late-20th-century graphic design. **Æ2381’s** artworks are held in private collections in more than 30 countries worldwide, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. His work is characterized by strong monochrome contrasts, carefully selected cultural imagery and deliberately distressed surfaces, creating a dialogue between nostalgia and futurism, analogue and technological culture, memory and imagination. **Æ2381’s** work was the subject of a review by exhibition art curator Thierry Fournier (Artnoises): “Collected AE (XX), it comes down to wanting, breaking, transgressing, an invisible border, to merging the civilizational DNA of the future and the past, looking down and in the same second, rocking! the work becomes a ticket, a simple ‘go!’ for an emotional teleportation that we live and see in ‘Black and white’! Æ2381 pushes you to jump into a void, in fact, populated with images, symbols, unexplored signs that propels us to a Real Timeless!” — T. Fournier (Artnoises) ★★★★★ All photographs represent the artworks as accurately as possible. Slight variations may occur due to lighting and monitor settings.
