Tutte le aste / Arte Contemporanea / Adri Q - XL - El Caballero de la Triste Figura
Adri Q is a young Afro-Cuban artist born in Cuba who currently resides and works in Alicante, Spain, living and working in El Campello, Alicante, whose painting arises from the encounter between illustration, geometry, and a deeply contemporary sensibility. Through acrylic on canvas, she has developed a recognizable visual language, characterized by the use of intense colors, flat surfaces, geometric structures, and a rich succession of graphic patterns that turn each composition into a dynamic and easily identifiable universe. Her work moves freely between figuration and abstraction. At times it starts from recognizable scenes — musicians, women, dancers, Mediterranean landscapes, animals, or characters belonging to the collective imagination — only to fragment them and reconstruct them through color blocks, visual rhythms, and decorative elements. In others, geometry takes on greater prominence and the figure seems to emerge from the very structure of color. One of the most interesting features of her work is precisely this ability to maintain a constant identity within a very broad theme. The Mediterranean, music, nature, literature, fantasy, and everyday life coexist within the same plastic universe. Her scenes can be intimate, playful, or contemplative, but almost always retain a sense of optimism, movement, and luminosity. Color does not function only as a decorative element: it is one of the main emotional engines of her painting. Deep blues, reds, yellows, violets, and turquoise combine through direct contrasts and clearly delineated surfaces, creating highly impactful compositions. In her musical works, for example, geometry seems to become rhythm; in her Mediterranean landscapes, light; and in the fantastical scenes, a doorway to an imagined world. The works currently circulating on Catawiki also show a good reception within the accessible contemporary art market. Her compositions have been selected by various experts on the platform, and pieces with themes as diverse as jazz, Mediterranean scenes, or fantastical figures maintain a perfectly recognizable visual identity. This progressive recognition is particularly interesting in an artist who is still building her career. Collecting her work brings you closer to a young language, decoratively powerful and already sufficiently defined to stand out with ease: a particularly valuable quality in a contemporary scene where developing an own voice is one of the greatest challenges for any emerging artist. Adri Q builds, ultimately, a cheerful, sophisticated, and slightly magical pictorial world: a place where everyday reality can be transformed into geometry, music, fantasy, and color. Please consult the original photographs to verify the actual condition of the work.” This vibrant acrylic painting on canvas fuses figurative cubism with contemporary folkloric illustration to reinterpret the emblematic figure of Don Quixote de la Mancha mounted on Rocinante. The composition is built through the geometric fragmentation of the armor, the horse, and the Manchegan landscape, enriched by a profusion of graphic patterns and visual textures — dots, dashes, and wavy lines — that infuse rhythmic dynamism across the surface. A warm and contrasting color palette dominated by crimson reds, ochres, solar yellows, and cobalt blue accents evokes the intensity of Castilian sun, highlighting the legendary hidalgo holding his spear and shield in the foreground, while in the background the characteristic windmills complete this modern tribute to a classic of universal literature.
