Adolphe Léon Willette. Feu Pierrot. Paris, Floury, 1919, 183 pp. A quarto volume (260 x 200 mm), half morocco, spine with raised bands, gilt head (binding of the period signed Jean Courty). Very good condition of the binding. Interior very fresh, no foxing. Covers and spine preserved. Ex-libris J. Schilizzi pasted on the front pastedown. First edition richly illustrated Through his memories, Willette recalls his childhood, his training, and, above all, his career in the Parisian art world of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The narrative allows one to follow an artist deeply tied to Montmartre, to illustrated journals, to humorous drawing, and to the world of cabarets. The figure of Pierrot, which occupied an important place in Willette's imagination and graphic work, gives its title to the book and can be understood as one of the symbols of his artistic universe, blending fantasy, melancholy, and poetry.
