Magnificent French fan from the late 19th century, large format, made with a delicate hand-painted silk gauze leaf, decorated with figures and ornamental motifs, and an elaborate lace finish. The central composition features female figures and cherubs (putti), accompanied by floral motifs and decorative elements, following the ornamental aesthetic characteristic of European fans of the late 19th century. The fan has an elaborate framework and mother-of-pearl guards, a material especially valued in luxury fan making during this period. The ribs feature ornamental decoration and the piece also retains a decorative tassel at the end. The leaf is richly embroidered and decorated with lace, creating an especially elegant and ornamental ensemble. This type of combination of painted silk or gauze leaf, lace and mother-of-pearl frame is documented in French fans from the late 19th century. At the bottom of the leaf there is a handwritten signature, whose reading seems to correspond to "Ruffiny", although the exact identification of the author could not be confirmed, so it is offered as a tentative reading of the signature. Due to its characteristics, materials, decoration and format, the piece can be dated to the late 19th century, approximately the last quarter of the century. Conservation status Very good condition for its age. The silk/gauze leaf is intact, with no tears or visible breaks. The lace is preserved and the whole retains its structure and decorative elements. It presents only light and natural signs of aging in keeping with the age of the materials, as well as minor signs typical of use and preservation of a piece from the late 19th century.
